creativity not negativity
19 july 2005 - From reading Gary's excellent website today I read of the effect that negativity from a tiny minority has been having. The power of the internet is the power of minorities to get a voice. Not a bad thing in principle itself but the anonimity of the internet allows the most useless in society to get a voice. What's the point of knocking something so creative? Creativity of the degree that Gary (and others) exhibit is bound to be a subjective thing. It's far better to try to paint something and fail than to be a critic - it's just so easy to be a critic. My own first oil paintings are a testament - now I've tried portraiture and landscape I can appreciate the effort made by real artists.
With Gary you get honesty - in his website you get the truth, the feelings, the aspirations and hopes and fears for his work. You get an insight into the man. You get inspiration.
I for one am not fussed if the new album is delayed - I know from the site why it is delayed and I'm happy with that. As the proud parent of a youngster born a week away from Raven and another one due this year after many many years of heartbreak I also know how wonderful life is in just being with the new arrival and can understand how this changes the work methods. We are all lucky that Gary is still producing new material - each album being a step forward from the previous. I'm not writing this to rally the troops against the negativity rather just to state my own support and my pride in being one of the many.
