A Dream of Siam?
Gary seems to be having a few technical problems according to his website - with PCs and Macs going down all over the place it's the last thing he wants right now.
It would sound sycophantic of me to say that I wouldn't mind what new tracks he played - if any - at the 'weekender' concerts - I'm always grateful we still get to see him year on year. Sycophantic (and that's a bugger to type) it may be but it's true. The web is full of experts giving their opinions on what he should and shouldn't play, and doubtless a few giving their tips on what he should do right now - me? well, I, er, disconnect from them - to coin a phrase.
The best thing for me though is that Gary is still trying to create new material, to work on new collaborations and tracks, create websites, graphics, photo cds - you tell me the name of another artist who puts this much effort into their work. Oh yes, and he's trying to lead a normal, private, life behind all of this show.
You try it. Or look at the current crop of modern artists out their today - plastic creations who only think about writing their own stuff after an album or two - I think we all know who these people are. There's no comparison.
So if we do get 'A Dream of Siam' then certainly I'll be happy. If we get new material I'll be moreso. If we don't then so what - you listen to the other tracks - they'll all have been improved and refined or restylised to some degree - if not overtly then subtly so. And you will see a unique performance from this unique personality.
